About

The Hawai‘i Clinical Placement Collaborative (HCPC), comprised of Hawai‘i schools of nursing and clinical partners, aims to strengthening clinical placements capacity for nursing education in Hawai‘i.

Our Mission

The Center leads the coordination of the Hawai‘i Clinical Placement Collaborative (HCPC) comprised of Hawai‘i schools of nursing and clinical partners and supports the regional use of CCPS.  This includes the coordination of partner enrollment, and facilitation of collaborative engagement by partners through participation in HCPC state collaborative meetings aimed at strengthening clinical placements capacity in the State and responding to changing trends in healthcare settings and nursing education in Hawai‘i.

Our History

In response to need and to better facilitate clinical placements for nursing students, the Center partnered with the Foundation for California Community Colleges (FCCC) in March 2011 to implement the Centralized Clinical Placement System (CCPS), a web-based software system in Hawai‘i.  The CCPS system was designed by the FCCC and the California Institute for Nursing and Health Care (CINHC) to ease California’s nursing shortage by making it easier for nursing schools and hospitals to match nursing school students to suitable clinical placements.

CENTRALIZED CLINICAL PLACEMENT SYSTEM (CCPS)

The Centralized Clinical Placement System (CCPS), a web-based software system in Hawai‘i.  The CCPS system was designed by the FCCC and the California Institute for Nursing and Health Care (CINHC) to ease California’s nursing shortage by making it easier for nursing schools and hospitals to match nursing school students to suitable clinical placements. CCPS creates an open communication platform that streamlines the nursing student clinical placement process and optimizes clinical site capacity to fulfill increasing student capacity demands.  Greater efficiency is achieved through the elimination of redundancy and scheduling conflicts by utilizing one system that all coordinators access within a prescribed time period, creating an equitable, transparent, automated, and consolidated environment for both clinical and academic partners to secure and track nursing clinical placements.

Through CCPS, schools and clinical providers maximize student clinical placements, find new availabilities, and build nursing education capacity through increased efficiencies. Schools rapidly match their placement needs to provider-defined clinical availability, and clinical providers efficiently manage a single placement schedule.

The HCPC Steering Committee

The HCPC is headed by the HCPC Steering Committee comprised of member partners, clinical education coordinators and academic clinical placement coordinators to provide ongoing strategic direction for the program. The Steering Committee leverages their knowledge, experiences, and insight to address issues relevant to the placement of students in clinical rotations and the use of CCPS. The Steering Committee is guided by Co-Chairs.  Each Co-Chair represents a side of the collaborative workflow, one from our Provider/clinical side and the other from our Schools of Nursing.  The committee meets regularly for scheduled meetings, trainings and ad hoc meetings if necessary.
